About Plymouth Area Democrats

In the beginning

Plymouth Area Democrats began as an informal gathering of Democrats from area towns who organized to support candidates in the 2004 election. The group was led by Martha Richards and found a “home” in a construction trailer generously funded by local “mover and loyal Democrats” Bob and Mary Crowley. Space was tight but spirits were high and a lot of grassroots activism happened in that trailer, including hosting a reception for Granny D.

From this simple beginning and through monthly meetings, we organized social and informative gatherings that kept local Democrats connected and attracted a great variety of presenters speaking to a wide variety of issues.

With infrastructure in place, Plymouth Area Democrats hit the ground running in the 2006 midterm elections. This time many of our members stepped up to the plate and ran for office. Virtually all of our candidates won and were part of the “Blue Tidal Wave” that kept the governorship and brought the State Senate and Legislature back to a Democratic majority and the New Hampshire US Congressional seats back under Democratic representation.

Plymouth Area Democrats helped get central New Hampshire Democrats on the political map. Through engaging in promoting Democratic candidates to represent us and hosting presentations on issues important to our base, we were able to build a strong coalition of like-minded people.

We are now focused on the way forward in the face of a new and dangerous Republican administration. While our country struggles with finding its way , the Plymouth Area Democrats is re-invigorated and has seen an incredible influx of new members and a real spirit of activism. We will continue to focus on our mission of promoting the core values of the Democratic Party; educating our members and the public regarding local, state and national issues ; recruiting and supporting candidates for election to public office; and coordinating and fostering relationships with other members and affiliates of the New Hampshire Democratic Party. We welcome all of you and encourage you to attend our meetings, and we look forward to connecting with you as we strive to live up to our core values. We remain fired up and ready to go!
